  • Trying to teach how to teach

Youth week has now ended finally, but I haven't accomplished proving my point. The movie 3 Idiots starring Aamir Khan really is a big eye-opener for me, and it actually just supported my principles regarding schools systems. In the country where I belong, tests are multiple choice, identification, and anything that requires memorization. It's a bad thing. There is no understanding. There is no realization of concepts. That is not learning. School must make the students "learned" and "educated" not "molded" in how the society wants them to be. What's the point of being wealthy and productive after college if people do not even understand what all things really mean? What's the point of SUCCESS if it is achieved through TRAINING, NOT LEARNING? Lastly, I hope you now understand why only 25% of things we learn everyday retain in our mind. All because there really is no learning. And that 25% are just what's in our head, not what was put in our heads.

"What did Kyle say to you next?" I sputtered a laugh. I can't believe he actually wanted to hear the rest of my story.  "Yeah, what did he say?" Max mocked from the back.  "Shut up!" I yelled before looking back at my dad. "He told me to give him a call sometime and gave me his number." I gave an excited squeal and shot my dad a girlish smile. "Oh my goodness, how interesting!" Max said, faking a sound of excitment. I shot him another glare.  "Listening here, you-"

Oldhiker just sat down to his keyboard, when he remembered some of the old gang that used to come to the Charlestown Forums.  "Why what would be better than to invite them in for some story telling?" He thought to himself.  As he sat there, he wasn't sure where he would want the story to begin, so he sent out some email invitations to the gang.  Surely they will arrive and add to the story.

  • A Day in the Life of Mavid

There are many interesting people that one encounters, but few are as interesting as my friend Mavid. Mavid was a relatively quiet and friendly young fellow, yet it seemed that that hilarity followed him like a shadow. One need look no further than a few years ago. Mavid wasn't the most timely individual and often found himself rushing around trying to meet deadlines. Getting to work on time fell squarely into this category. One morning Mavid was running particularly late. As Mavid hastily dressed for work, he dashed to his dryer to grab a pair of fresh blue jeans. He quickly grabbed a pair of jeans, slapped them on, and bolted out the door in hopes of arriving at work before his boss. With one minute to spare, Mavid's cheeks hit the chair at his desk. Mavid quickly realized he had a problem. His jeans felt unusually tight. Mavid looked down and his waistline and thought, "I must have gained some weight," but then he saw the problem. He had worn his wife's jeans to work.

  • The Cowboy

I am dropping the last flower on my grandmother's grave.  It is hard to believe that her funeral is coming to a close.  As the mourners begin to leave the cemetary, a cowboy walks up to the grave site with a tear in his eye.  I don't recognize him but the term cowboy comes to mind because he is wearing shining black boots with perfect points, jeans with a large belt buckle with an image I can't quite make out and of course, the ten gallon hat.  My mother grabs my hand and begins to pull me away with the rest of our friends and family, but I can't seem to look away from this cowboy.  He looks so out of place in this moment.  I take one last glance back at him and he meets my stare.  He winks at me as if there is a secret we both share and all I do is turn around and continue to walk away.  But as I walk, I can't help but wonder, who is this guy and why is standing at my grandmother's grave?

  • Stranded and Hungry

Marry opened his sand-crusted eyes and squinted at the searing sun. "What the fuck happened?" he wondered. The first feeling that registered in his brain was the waves of hunger pangs that dug deep into his stomach. As his eyes began to focus, he realized he had been washed up on a deserted island and screenshots of his boating trip with Mavid flashed in his mind. Marry groaned and thought to himelf, "Food... I need some food." As if by magic, he saw a spread of platters just 1,000 feet away... as if a buffet had been laid out to welcome him. He mustered his strength and managed to crawl to the feast. As quickly as his excitment came, it melted away. Tomato and mushroom salad? Refried beans with sour cream? Tuna fish salad with mayonnaise? Sauteed peas? Bagels smeared with cream cheese?? What is all this? "This is not suitable for human consumption!" he screamed. If only he could have a Costco-sized tub of cashews.

  • I found a magic penny

One day I was having a really bad day when I found a penny, picked it up and put it in my pocket. I then reached in my pocket, touched the penny and made a wish that something good would happen.   Not one minute later I found a one hundred dollar bill just lying on the sidewalk. • The Villain in My Dreams

Pale night.. hush.. fear. I am running down a dark alley, an unknown man is chasing after me. Silence and darkness, there's no one left to help; I am in extreme frightness. But why do I keep seeing an abandoned bridge; I guess hiding under the bridge would help. I can hear his gentle footsteps nearing towards me. One step more and there you go, I am totally dead; but I can sense he's taking one step backwards; he's running away from me. Now, it is a relief. I can smell the see breezes already. It is so invigorating..but why is there a shower head across the sea? Next time I know, I am taking a bath in it. Now, I am running in a dark alley again, alone, trying to escape from the faceless man with a dagger. He's now grabbing my arms and I am trying to hit him but I can't seem to move. My arms are too weak and he is slicing them up. Blood.. screams.. fear. A shiver runs down my spine when I woke up from my dream.

Finally, F Terry is awake. • Falling In Love at a Coffee Shop

Cafe Hardbean was always somewhat crowded around noon. "Good," I thought, "The more people there are, the more I can blend in." I ordered a medium sized coffee and sat down. This was a normal routine for me. Working 9-5 during the week was a little exhausting, and getting the occasional break in between to relax was definitely needed. At 22, I had recently gotten an internship and was anonymously living in Pittsburgh with my two cats. I sat near the corner, pulled out my book, adjusted my hair, and was 5 pages into the chapter when I was disturbed by someone. "Whatcha readin'?" "Hmm?" "I said, whatcha readin'?" I looked up to see a slender, tall guy with horn rimmed glasses and comfortable clothing. Shy about revealing my book taste, I quickly showed him the cover. "Is it any good?" he asked. "Yeah," I said, "if you like romance." Raising an eyebrow, he took the liberty to take the chair next to mine. "I love romance. I love that book. I checked it out from the library two days ago."

  • No mountain too high

How far would you go to save a friend? For Jack the answer was plain to see. He had sold himself to the mafia, given every last scrap of his freedom to pay off her debt. Not that she knew or would even care if she did know. Somewhere along the way he got good at would he did, some would even say the best. Now the most dangerous hitman this side of the Atlantic wanted out, he'd done his time and even made a little cash as well as a name for himself, but all he wanted was to lay down his the tools of his trade, take off the pristine suit and return to the small town life he once knew.  But before he could even think about any of that he had one last hit, himself. The plan was simple. If he ever failed to check in with his handler, it was game over for him, so the handler had to die. After that, his fellow hitman and close friend would take the job to put down the rogue agent and fake Jack's death. After that, it was just a matter of moving to an old safehouse and laying low.

The tired man groaned as he lifted his head off the cold surface. His eyes were crusted shut. His toes curled around the cold morning air, his whole body stiff. Finally, he pried his eyes open and was blinded by the bright sunlight. There was no barrier to keep it from shining down onto him- and he shut his eyes again. His head pounded and he felt a hard object poke into his back. “Hey buddy- get up,” Rolling over with a groan, a shop owner looked down upon him, broom in hand. How odd, he thought,What is this man doing in my home? I didn’t call for the maids today. He sat up where he lay and let out a deep sigh. There was the clicking of shoes against hard surfaces all around him, unclear murmurs as his hand ran through his unkempt hair.

I have never been one to like the cold, but mom insists that I absolutely have to go. "Mom, why do I have to come?" "Well sweetie, the tree is only a family tree if all of us choose it." she stated. We get there and I see him. Him whose name I don't know. Him who has the brightest blue eyes & the dreamiest "Hey, my names Fennit, how can I help you guys today?" He just talked to me. I swear! He was looking right at me. "Yes, we were looking for trees that are about 8 feet tall." my dad told him. "Oh, they are this way, follow me." He said. We followed him. A restroom, I thought. "Mom, I need to use the restroom. I will be back." Great, I needed to get away from that. I found it, I check my hair & make up, then leave. As I'm leaving the restroom, not looking ahead, I bump into someone & fall. It was Fennit.

Her hands rose and fell gracefully as she moved in the air, winds lifting and guiding her body. A triumphant smile was spread across her face as she soared, far, far above the view of the people down below.    Amara let out a whoop, leaning down to push herself into a twist. There was nothing quit's like it, the rush and the pure victory. Flight... Flight was her calling. To restrict her abilities had been the Patrol's mistake - they were simply jealous, a police force made from the jealousy of those stuck on the ground. Her mother would be worried sick... But as long as they didn't catch her, everything would work out. Everything had to work out.    It was how stories like this went, right? People like her were born with powers that set them apart. There was some restriction or trouble, but everything worked out.    Amara let out a huff, breath fogging up the cool air. Yeah, totally.Life like hers was a fairy tale.Hardly. It's tough going, being a pigeon in today's world. You'd think it's all eating breadcrumbs and cooing and shitting on people's cars, and, well... you'd be right. But I'm different. I don't want to live in the gutter eating discarded sandwiches and bathing in mud puddles. I want the real life, I want high-society, a golden bird cage and proper food and feather preening sessions... But life is harsh, I was to find out soon enough. Not in the least because, like so many of my kind, I lived in France. It's not easy, finding high society when high society regards you as a main course.
